Hnoss1Fanney Ingólfsdóttir og Droplaug Benediktsdóttir are the owners of Hnoss.  Hnoss is an idea about creating beautiful products and toys for children where the imagination roams free with no boundaries. The first toy from Hnoss will be ready in early 2012 and is called Gætrur and means child games it is based on old fashion toys which are brought to the modern times and will be produced here in Iceland.  During product development they are also designing gift cards and other printable cards, all produced in Iceland.

ofjewelry is the same, not even a pair. That concept has fascinated  Ingu Bjork Andresdottur fashion designer and she wants people to find jewelry that fits the person and is unique.

Inga graduated with a B.A degree in fashion design from the Academy of the Arts in spring 2008. She has a workspace here at Toppstöðin and is working on the IBA-The Indian in me line.

 

 

The day of the electric car

RafbíllBecause of the international entrepreneur week, the development organization for electric cars is presenting the day of the electric car on the 17th of November from 16:00-18:00.

The organization will be on site with converted electric cars where the public can take a test drive and get information about the cars and the process of transforming them from gas guzzling monsters to clean all electric drive-train.

The Uni. Iceland Racing team will also be on-site introducing their electric race car which will enter a international competition in July 2012.

 

Deadline extended for application for spaces

The deadline to apply for the spaces opening up has been extended to the 1st of November.

The spaces are:

  • Three to four person space in the office hall for individuals or groups
  • One space in the design wing for designers in the clothing industry.

Designers and others with interesting projects are encouraged to apply.

Leg

A few places and offices are about to free up in the coming days. They are:

One space in the “Clothing design” wing, where there is space for desk, sewing machine, cloth hangers and more.  Three to four person spaces, ideal for individuals or a group.

Persons with exiting and interesting project in the design sector are encouraged to apply by the 24th of October. Wood – Lecture series, Wednesday 19th of October , 12:10-13:00

IWoodts time for the second lecture in the lecture series. Now Jón Guðmundsson, Plant physiologist will talk about wood, more precisely where the “good” wood is to be found and how to process it.

Every specie of trees has its ups and downs and a building block. Straight logs can be worked into almost anything, from small houses to furniture, walls. But the most valuable wood is the wood from leafed trees, unlike conifers, where the wood can be worked and formed using pressing and steam induction.

The Mayor in Pink

PuzzledToday the first puzzle from the product line Puzzled by People will be released. The puzzle is designed by Puzzled by Iceland. On the first one the mayor of Reykjavik, Jón Gnarr carries himself exceptionally well in pink. On that occasion 500ISKR of every sold puzzle will go to the Cancer fund.

 

Top Attendance

The attendance on the first series of lectures on metal working was fantastic. The CEO of Járnsmiðja Óðins held the lecture and the theme was Designed into Metal.  He described in detail different materials and material properties, surface textures and processing. The lecture was a great success and designers and others showed high interest.

The next lecture in the series will be held on the 19th of October 2011, more on that later.

 

Icelandic manufacturing – raw materials, supply and processes

JSOToppstöðin and federation of Icelandic industries have joined forces and offer a series of lectures on Icelandic manufacturing and processing methods. In each month one subject such as metals, glass and wood will be discussed.  Experts from each sector will discuss and explain properties processing options, development and supply and demand. At the end of each lecture the floor will be open for questions and discussion. The goal is to inform people of domestic processing options and materials.  Designers and industry workers are encouraged to attend.

The series will be held at Toppstöðin  in Elliðaárdal every third Wednesday at 12:10 – 13:00 and is open to everyone.

The theme for September is Metals, and the first lecture on the 21st of September. Daníel Óðinsson CEO of Járnsmiðja Óðins ehf will be the lecturer and will explain metals and metal working.
